Thanks to Begum Erenler founder of Baykuş Okulu. Owl School, this month we began a series of online courses.

Food speaks – a live dialog between you, your body, and your food

Baykuş Okulu is Begum’s online platform designed for and by a team of friends/guides supporting each other doing community based work; to deliver workshops and presentations that allow is to be able to see in the dark times of the world; all of which help us to remember that we are all one.

This first course was about empowering choice based living in relation to food choices and our overall relationship to food for any time.

Together we discovered and discussed the role of individual beliefs, culture, experience, and habits in our food choices exploring these questions:

  • Am I aware of how my cultural experiences shape my food choices?

  • Have the convictions and beliefs I hold become traps?

  • Is my current eating program a habit/habit based?

  • Is what I eat based on what I need or what I have chosen to believe?

  • Do I eat based on what I need inside myself or is it somehow externally motivated?

  • Do I know how to listen to my body’s core needs? Can I hear or am I deaf/blinded by my own convictions?

Outcomes from our discussion

  • Practice listening to your body and what it needs

  • Discover how to differentiate between what you need and what you want

  • Listen and understand the messages at the source of your wanting, needing, and even not knowing
